Charleroi AREA Heritage
Banquet in March - Fundraising Success!
As the kick-off of the Capital Campaign for the Charleroi Heritage
& Tourism Community Fund, the Charleroi Area Historical
Society hosted the 2005 Charleroi AREA Heritage Banquet - "Lighting
Up Our Heritage" - March 5th, 6 PM @ the Elks - held in
conjunction with the Washington County Foundation Incorporated,
and with the support of Signature Sponsor, Charleroi Federal
Savings Bank, MV Hospital, Lee Supply, Jaycee Foods, Cindy Pagano
and Flowers on the Avenue, Back Porch, Charleroi Subway, Davies
Ford, Double M's Pizza, Highway Appliance, Log Cabin Candles,
Mon Valley Office Supply, Orange's, Quaker Ridge Winery, Rego's,
The Spring House, The Valley Independent, The Valley of Light
Task Force, Vocelli Pizza, and all those who actively supported
local and regional heritage tourism by attending Charleroi's
Banquet. Milt Kubik welcomed the crowd attending and nine (9)
heritage displays with a multitude of corresponding informational
binders were presented for perusal and review for those attending.
Proceeds ($5000 + net amount) from this event benefited Charleroi's
Heritage & Tourism Community Fund. The annual fund monies
generated will be used - per application and approval - toward
Charleroi Area developing projects that will help actively motivate
heritage and tourism projects that are currently proceeding
and may develop in the future.
The Society is working toward obtaining more information for
Charleroi Area Walking & Driving Tours - color coded with
signage + Mini-Museums - interactively working with people from
Area Communities and in the town proper; Archival Inventory
Phases; Genealogy & History Research Center at the Library;
completion and pursuit of the Historic District and Presentation
thereof; "Working Glass" Display w/ the Corning Retiree
Association; "Shadows of Yester-Year" murals; Fundraiser
Projects - various volumns of Charleroi Area History - General
and Specific; Programs in process of being lined up; Membership-Program
Booklets - slated to be done before first Regular Membership
meeting in April; By-Law Committee Work; Involvement in the
MV Chamber Chataqua as part of Fundraiser and Outreach Effort;
potential future festival Involvement; possibly much more as
the community fund grows and as the tourism future unfolds for
the area.
After a few words of support and positive reinforcement from
Melvin Bassi as representive of his firm and for Charleroi Federal
Savings Bank as the event's Signature Sponsor; the keynote speaker,
Dr. Louis Waddell, gave an indepth discertation on the Whiskey
Rebellion and tied it in with Fallowfield Township History.
Afterward, thank you gifts were distributed to the speaker and
to Charleroi Federal, and a "Share the Wealth" and
ticket bidding auction was held wherein 13 wonderful raffle
prizes and 3 door prizes were awarded to the lucky winners.
The CAHS and WCCF Board of Directors and Trustees heartily thanked
all those who are supporting them in their endeavors for the
betterment of the Charleroi Area.
The official grande opening of the Genealogy & History Research
Center will be held at the J. K. Library with the official revealing
of the Tener Mini-Museum that will be kept there at the first
regular meeting of the Society on April 18th, 7 PM. |
